Opening of Dawn Breeze's Exhibit "Land Sound"
On July 7th we celebrated Dawn Breeze’s return to the Vineyard as the featured artist of the third pop-up in our summer series. The gallery was transformed to include her exhibition Land Sound, a series of poetic abstract landscapes. The paintings are created with mixed medium, natural material on handmade paper.
The exhibition explores Breeze’s fascination with the interaction between the landscape and the psyche, as well as the changes that occur to the landscape over time. She aims to engage viewers in her work, to incite contemplation, and to show the interconnectedness and flux of life. Though she grew up on the Vineyard, she now lives in Germantown, New York, where she not only does solo and group exhibitions, but teaches, writes and constructs social art projects.
Head High Kombucha provided us with a fresh batch of their delicious kombucha, custom-made for the exhibition. Brewed with green-tea, lemon and the gallery’s own lavender, the fermented drink was refreshing on it’s own or mixed with gin and other fruit juice. It was a delicious to addition to the corn, ribs and other refreshments that we grilled up on our back patio area. Head High started selling their kombucha this summer and have been expanding ever since. You can find bottles of their brew at the Larder off State Road in Vineyard Haven (right in front of us!) or at the West Tisbury Farmers Market on Wednesdays.
Breeze’s exhibit will be on display at Island Copper until July 26th, so make sure you stop by if you are looking for a unique art experience. See more of her work at dawnbreeze.com.
